The Kernersville Chamber of Commerce is committed to creating a strong business community. One of the ways to accomplish this is by improving the educational opportunities available to our public school students. The Teacher Grant Program is an effort to provide a unique educational experience for students in elementary, middle and high schools. Funds for unique educational programs are very limited, and teachers are providing many supplies and materials out of their own pockets.
Grants are provided to suitable projects that add value to the learning experience in a classroom. Where possible, the project should directly benefit both the class and the school.
The banquet includes a reception and presentation of community awards. We also recognized past chairpersons of the Chamber of Commerce Board, dating back to 1968.
Each month our Business Affairs Committee selects a business to be recognized in the Kernersville News. This recognition is sponsored by the Kernersville News, and includes a plaque, photo opportunity and story about the business.
The committee alternates categories to select one business to be recognized. The criteria for selection is that the business must be a current member, have been a member for at least 2 years, and not received the award within the last 5 years. When there are multiple businesses eligible within a category, the selection is made based on that businesses involvement in various civic activities.
The recognition is not an opinion on the success of the business, but more so on the perception on being a corporate citizen. The recognition is not an award, but more of a “spotlight” on a particular business.

To provide insight as to how Kernersville functions as a community (both internally and externally within the piedmont Triad region and the state of North Carolina).
To further prepare participants for leadership roles and involvement within the community, the region and the state.
Requirements: 18-20 program participants are selected from a pool of applicants each year. To successfully complete the experience, each participant is expected to fully participate in all monthly sessions. You will also complete a community project of your choosing, a different project for each group. In summary, you are allowed to miss one class to graduate on time. Music at Twilight Concerts
Concerts are held on the Town Hall Courtyard monthly on a Thursday during May, June, July and August with a rain date in September.
Small Business Awards Breakfast
In May of each year, we recognize four local businesses, including the Small Business Person of the Year, Minority Small Business Person of the Year, Small Business Advocate of the Year and the Duke Energy Citizenship award.
In September we will hold Kernersville’s own “Amazing Race.” Teams of 4 will compete at different locations and at the end of the event we will have a party and the overall winning team will be presented with a trophy, have bragging rights and decide which Kernersville non-profit gets a monetary donation from the event.
This is a great morale and team building event. This is an event to compete against your competitors.
