Professional Bio
DOUG WATKINS BIO
Doug began his career in construction just after high school because of his love for being outside. He trained in building log cabins, apartment complexes and conventional homes. A brief period in the US Air Force in Europe was just a short pause on his journey. On returning home he married Cheri Neal from Greensboro and they began a life together, aspiring to own their own business.
Doug stayed in the construction field working for one of the pre-eminent builders in Greensboro, Luke Jobe. While working several years for the Jobes, he acquired his General Contractors License in 1990. Soon after, he started his own business as a subcontractor to many other premier contractors in the area as well.
In 1991 he was contacted by a fledgling restoration company and became addicted to this heart attack business. After an 8 year stint as general manager, Doug & Cheri formed 1st Aide Restoration in May of 2000. Their first large job arrived within just a couple of weeks when sheer winds hit Greensboro – a major multiple floor water damage in what is now the Wells Fargo Bank building. And they’ve never looked back.
Along with the GC License, Doug also is one of fewer than 800 Certified Restorers in the world and is also a Certified Mold Remediator. Both designations, granted by the Restoration Industry Association, require extensive study and casework to achieve.
1st Aide Restoration, Inc. has also been a supporter of Hospice, the Women’s Resource Center, The Children’s Home Society, Ronald McDonald House, Greensboro Grasshoppers and most recently the Carolina Cobras.
