Business of the Month for June: 1-Stop, Inc is the parent company of 1-Stop Convenience Stores, Self Storage of Walkertown, Self Storage of Greensboro and 1-Stop Mini Storage

The first 1-Stop opened in 1979 at 200 Century Park Blvd. in Kernersville in the building currently occupied by New Image Salon.  A few weeks later, 1-Stop #2 opened on the corner of Vance and Kerner Roads, which 1 Stop still occupies today.

The Susan and David Clark family founded the business and is still owned by the Clark Family.   With 20 employees the Clark family owes special thanks to Betty Dillon who has been a crucial part of 1-Stop since joining the family business in 1989.  Celebrating the 45th anniversary in 2024, the success of the business would not have been possible without the 100’s of Co-workers other the years.

Current managers include Amanda Atkins, Meagan Stover, Meagan Sandlin, and Victoria Powell (3rd Generation 1-Stop co-worker).  1-Stop has the convenience store items, groceries, candy, salty snacks, drinks, beer.  1-Stop #6 serves fresh fried chicken and taters 7 days a week.  The community loves the chicken and taters, which is what 1-Stop is known for.  In addition to the convenience stores, there is a Self Storage, Commercial storage and property rentals.

 

Over the years, 1-Stop has had 15 convenience stores around the Triad.  Some in Kernersville that are now other business include 627 N Main St., (now occupied by Low Price Mart Exxon), 202 W Mountain St. (now occupied by Mantle Realty), 200 Century Park Blvd. (now occupied by New Image Salon), and 120 Linville Road (now occupied by Expresit)

 

1-Stop actively sponsors and donates to many local charities and schools.  We supply meals for high school athletic teams and clubs, sponsor youth athletic teams, sponsor local civic organization events, support elementary and middle schools, and hold free community events where kids can come get free holiday themed gifts and pictures with the Easter Bunny or Santa.

Currently 1-Stop is focused on real estate that allows us to grow our retail, development and rental business.  We see a need for affordable retail and rents in the area.  Residential sale prices and rents have increased so much that the people needed to work in service and trade industries can’t afford to live in Kernersville. 

 

As I think about how 1-Stop has made it to its 45th Anniversary in 2024, I am reminded of the sacrifices made by the Clark Family to grow the company since 1979 and give me, and all our great co-workers, a chance to be a part of a proud local business.  I really appreciate the people of Kernersville who continue to support 1- Stop by visiting us daily.  I want to thank those customers, and I want to encourage the people of Kernersville to support local businesses.  Our local businesses are not always in the brand new buildings or able to deliver products using an app.  Food doesn’t taste better when it’s cooked in a new building, and the profit from the items you buy online rarely sticks around Kernersville long enough to sponsor a youth soccer team.  I want to encourage the people of Kernersville to be patient with those local businesses as they continue to struggle with being understaffed and overworked.  Please take time to leave a positive review online for our locally-owned businesses.  Those positive reviews fuel those businesses with new opportunities.  Those reviews also connect us with the customers and show support for those businesses, the same way customers have supported 1-Stop since 1979.
