Professional Bio
In May of 1998, I graduated from Appalachian State University with a BS in English Education with a minor in Spanish. Immediately, I began teaching high school full-time. It wasn't long before I was back in school at night and in the summers working on my Master's degree. In December of 2001, I graduated from the University of North Carolina Greensboro with an MA in English (Southern American Writers) and an MA in History (North Carolina). Faulkner is my first love, followed closely by Appalachian writers and the associated geographic and cultural influences.
I have 28 years of classroom teaching experience, 22 of those in the online, collegiate classroom as an adjunct professor. Full-time, I am an Advanced Placement Literature and Composition teacher and English Department Chair at East Forsyth High School. I also sponsor the Senior Class, Leading Ladies (all girls service group), English Honors Society, and Junior Marshals.
Part-time, I work with LSUA, College Board, and with another university. I have two daughters, one 14 and one 20, who keep me very busy. My family is very involved with advocacy and volunteering with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; this organization was integral to our survival when our 18-year-old was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes days after her 9th birthday.
