October Business of the Month-Farmers Feed and Seed
October Business of the Month
Some businesses simply operate within a community. Others become part of its story.
For more than seven decades, Farmers Feed & Seed has been woven into the fabric of Kernersville, serving generations of residents while earning a reputation for quality products, trusted expertise, and exceptional customer service.
Founded in 1952 by Rex A. Idol and C. Glenn Idol, the family-owned business began on North Main Street alongside S&S Roller Mills in a building that once served as a blacksmith shop. In 1962, Farmers Feed & Seed moved to its current location at the corner of North Main and King Streets, where it continues to serve the community today.
Under the leadership of Joe Idol, the business has grown and adapted to meet the changing needs of its customers while remaining true to the values on which it was founded. What started as a provider of feed, fertilizer, field and garden seed, and poultry supplies has evolved into a destination for lawn and garden products, animal feed, outdoor power equipment, parts, repairs, and maintenance services.
Today, through Farmers Feed & Seed and Diamondback Outfitters, customers can find everything from grass seed and fertilizer to Purina feed, mowers, chainsaws, trimmers, blowers, and a wide range of outdoor equipment solutions.
Yet the success of Farmers Feed & Seed cannot be measured solely by the products it offers. Its longevity is rooted in something far more meaningful: relationships.
For generations, customers have relied on Farmers Feed & Seed not only for products, but also for knowledgeable guidance, dependable service, and a personal connection with people who truly understand the community they serve. That commitment to customer relationships continues to distinguish the business in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
The Idol family's connection to Kernersville makes this recognition especially meaningful. Farmers Feed & Seed was not a company that found success elsewhere and later arrived in town. Its story began here, and its roots remain firmly planted in the community it has proudly served for more than 70 years.
As Farmers Feed & Seed looks toward the future, its legacy offers an enduring lesson for entrepreneurs and business leaders alike: while products, industries, and communities may evolve, the values of service, trust, and relationships never go out of style.
Congratulations to Joe Idol, the Idol family, and the entire Farmers Feed & Seed team on being recognized as Kernersville's October Business of the Month. This honor celebrates more than seven decades of dedication, community involvement, and a lasting commitment to serving the place they proudly call home.
