Kernersville Family YMCA Named September Business of the Month
The Kernersville Family YMCA has been named Business of the Month for September, recognizing an organization that has been a cornerstone of the Kernersville community for decades.
The YMCA began serving the Kernersville community in 1959, and its current 26-acre campus took shape with the opening of its first building on February 18, 1973. Today, the YMCA operates a 73,000-square-foot facility, with an additional 10,000-square-foot Airnasium currently under construction.
With more than 100 employees and over 9,000 members, the Kernersville Family YMCA offers a wide variety of programs and activities for all ages, including wellness, group exercise, aquatics, youth and adult sports, summer camps, and more. The summer months are especially busy, with the YMCA’s outdoor pools and water park, Summer Day Camp, and sports programs in full swing.
But the YMCA’s impact extends far beyond recreation and wellness.
“Our mission is to continue to be involved in and support our community in many ways beyond being a place for people to come for recreation,” said Adam Cardwell, Executive Director of the Kernersville Family YMCA. “We want to be out in the community, building relationships and showcasing how the YMCA gives back to our community that has supported us for so many years.”
One example of that commitment is YMCA Bright Beginnings, an annual program that pairs local children in need with caring volunteers for a personalized back-to-school shopping experience. Each child receives new school clothes, athletic shoes, and a backpack filled with school supplies.
This year, the Kernersville Family YMCA celebrated its 27th Annual Bright Beginnings event and made history by serving 168 local students—the largest number of children supported through the program in a single year.
For more than six decades, the Kernersville Family YMCA has continued to grow alongside the community while remaining committed to its mission of “Helping all people reach their God-given potential in spirit, mind and body.”
